KUCHING: Sarawak is set to reinforce its climate leadership with the flagship event, “Accelerating Climate Action in Sarawak | An Open Day for the Sarawak Net Zero Strategy & Carbon Plan”, to be held on 7 to 8 October 2025 at Sheraton Kuching Hotel.
Organised by the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak (MEESty) in collaboration with PwC Malaysia, the two-day event will unveil Sarawak’s long-term decarbonisation pathway and carbon market mechanism, forming the backbone of the state’s Net Zero Strategy.
Anchored by the theme “Your Vision, Sarawak’s Future: Charting Climate Action Towards COP30”, the Open Day will convene government leaders, industry players, financial institutions, and global partners to explore solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Discussions will cover renewable energy, carbon management, sustainable land use, and biodiversity protection—pillars of Sarawak’s ambition to reach Net Zero by 2050.
Deputy Minister of MEESty, Datuk Dr. Hazland Hipni, said the initiative highlights Sarawak’s determination to respond to the global climate challenge.
“By mobilising stakeholders at all levels, Sarawak is ensuring our climate strategies bring tangible benefits to our people, economy, and environment,” he said.
Participants will also be invited to provide feedback on the state’s proposed carbon trading framework, while exhibitions and workshops on sustainability reporting and ESG principles will showcase practical pathways for businesses to act.
PwC Malaysia’s Executive Chair, Nurul A’in Abdul Latif, described the event as a critical platform for industry to explore “real-world solutions that link clean energy, carbon markets, finance, and the circular economy.”
Supported by regional and international partners, the Open Day underscores Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which places renewable energy and climate action at the heart of growth.
Beyond policies and panels, it promises to engage youth, indigenous communities, and civil society, ensuring Sarawak’s climate action reflects the voices of its people. -UKASnews
