KUCHING: The Getaran Kesenian Melayu Concert on Saturday showcased the rich heritage and traditions of Sarawak's Malay culture.
The main pillar of the concert is “without the old, there is no new,” where the concert features traditional music combined with orchestra, modern music, and traditional Sarawak Malay music, which also aims to introduce newer generations to the culture and art of Sarawak Malay people through traditional musical compositions with modern concepts.
The concert featured six traditional Sarawak Malay arts: Gendang Nopeng, Bangsawan, Zapin Bandarsah Dance, Gurindam and Syair, Silat Pulut Sarawak, and Gambus Sarawak.
Local talents such as Bob Yusuf, Datuk Sarbanun Marican, Safar Ghaffar, and many more have also been invited to perform traditional and modern songs at this concert.
Free for the public to attend and immerse themselves in the wonderful Malay culture, this concert was organised by The Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak in collaboration with the Bandarsah Kuching Artists Organisation (PASBK).
Also present during the concert were the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Hajah Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development), Datu Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia, Raden Sigit Witjaksono and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
