SIBU: The closing ceremony of the Program Lonjakan Kecemerlangan SPM 2025 for Kanowit district was officiated by Ngemah Assemblyman, Anyi Jana, at Kingwood Hotel Sibu on Friday, highlighting Sarawak’s strong commitment to advancing education.
Organised by the Kanowit District Education Office (PPD), the initiative gathered 200 participants comprising Form Five students of SMK Nanga Dap and their teachers. The programme was funded under the Kanowit District Forest Concession budget.
In his speech, Anyi stressed that education is a vital foundation for self-development, family progress, and community growth. He reminded students that academic success comes with discipline, hard work, and clear goals.
“There are no shortcuts to success in education. Students must remain focused, manage their time well, and balance academics with co-curricular activities to become well-rounded individuals,” he said.
He also called on parents and the community to continue motivating and supporting children in their studies.
Highlighting government initiatives, Anyi shared that beginning in 2026, Sarawak will provide free education for students enrolling in state-owned higher learning institutions.
Full-time students will have their tuition fees covered, while those in public universities will receive cash aid of RM1,200 annually starting this year.
Additionally, the Sarawak Government is providing laptops worth RM3,000 to eligible B40 students pursuing tertiary studies to ease their learning process.
At the same event, Anyi contributed six units of air conditioners for SMK Nanga Dap, Kanowit.
