SARIKEI: A jogathon and 1M1S Run organised by the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) of SMK St Anthony Sarikei brought together 1,500 participants in a show of community spirit at the DSH Open Stadium on Saturday.
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii, who is also MP for Sarikei and Repok Assemblyman, officiated the closing ceremony, commending the organisers for making the programme both meaningful and impactful.
“Events like this not only raise funds for schools but also build closer ties between students, parents, and the wider community. Physical fitness is the foundation of success, in both education and life,” he said.
Dato’ Sri Huang highlighted the Sarawak Government’s commitment to education, noting the Premier’s historic announcement of free education for all students beginning in 2026.
He also pointed out that SMK St Anthony has received RM1.22 million in RTP allocations from 2020 to 2025 for upgrading its facilities.
To further support the school, he pledged an additional RM30,000 allocation for annual programmes. -UKASnews
