PADAWAN: Lifelong learning is the key to building a knowledgeable community regardless of age or generation.
Deputy Minister of Transport Sarawak (Aviation and Road), Datuk Dr. Jerip Susil, said society should not be afraid to continue learning and seeking new experiences in order to improve their standard of living.
“Do not give up easily, but instead keep striving for success in the fields you are passionate about. Lifelong learning is very important as it creates opportunities, strengthens character, and forms the foundation for the development of a community,” he said.
He was speaking at the closing of the 3L: Lifelong Learning Programme, themed Heritage Upheld, Community Empowered, held here on Saturday.
The programme, organised by the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Women’s Branch in collaboration with the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), aimed to empower the community through knowledge, skills, and cultural heritage appreciation in conjunction with DBNA’s 70th Anniversary Celebration.
Datuk Dr. Jerip, who is also the Assemblyman for Mambong, further expressed his hope that the 3L – Lifelong Learning slogan would serve as a community tagline in the pursuit of knowledge and in building a brighter, more sustainable future.
Throughout the programme, various activities were held, including career briefings by Sarawak Skills and the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) carnival by the Sarawak Science Centre, workshops on organic lip balm making and traditional Bidayuh handicrafts, as well as health screenings by Normah Medical Specialist Centre.
