KABONG: Pusat Aktiviti Warga Emas (PAWE) will soon be established in Kabong, providing a dedicated space for elderly residents to engage in healthy and beneficial activities.
Initiated by Kabong Assemblyman, Dato Mohd Chee Kadir, the project will be developed on a one-acre site with an allocation of RM800,000. The symbolic launch was officiated by Deputy Minister for Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak, Datuk Mohamad Razi Sitam, during an engagement session held at Dewan Balai Polis Kabong on Tuesday night.
The centre marks the 20th PAWE out of 21 planned across Sarawak, with its establishment expected to support active ageing and enhance the wellbeing of senior citizens in the district.
At the same event, Datuk Mohamad Razi also officiated the Senior Citizen Health Benefit (SCHB) engagement session and oversaw the distribution of several welfare initiatives by the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) Kabong.
Among the assistance handed over were Kenyalang Gold Cards, bereavement aid, senior citizen aid (BWE), SCHB support, and assistance for persons with disabilities (OKU).
“The government remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of senior citizens and ensuring they continue to lead meaningful lives within their communities,” he said.
Organised by JKMS Sarawak, the event attracted around 250 participants.
Also present were Dato Mohd Chee, JKMS Director, Semawi Mohamad, Betong Resident representative Hamdan Katang, and Kabong District representative, Ahmad Sabree Salleh. -UKASnews
