MIRI: Four Sarawakian youths are among the ten recipients of the Ten Outstanding Young Malaysians (TOYM) 2025 who were celebrated in a grand ceremony at the Pullman Hotel, Miri on Friday.
The inaugural ceremony organised by Junior Chamber International (JCI) Miri was officiated by Sarawak Transport Minister, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, who was representing the Premier of Sarawak.
With the theme “Trailblazing Change, Inspiring Generations”, TOYM 2025 recognises ten of the country’s youth who excel in the fields of academics, entrepreneurship, culture, law, volunteering, early childhood education and community development.
The four recipients from Sarawak are Dr. Michelle Tiong from Bintulu who has produced sustainability innovations through carbon capture research; and Camillia Siaw Chia Wen, a Sarawak-born singer who has upheld the Bidayuh-Chinese cultural heritage through music and clinical therapy.
They also include Sylvester Lim Poh Sing from Miri, who developed the child protection policy; and Alan Chai Ming Lun from Kuching, the entrepreneur behind the success of the iconic drink “Teh C Special Syrup”.
Other recipients include Potter Ka Kai Fong, Teoh Shaw Jhee, Kevin Khoo Kuan Xiong, Lum Kok Kiong, Kate Yong Sin Yee and Jonathan Chan Heng Liang.
According to the Organising Chairman, Candy Yong Chuen Tien, this recognition is not only an honour, but also a great responsibility for the recipients to continue to inspire the younger generation.
