BINTULU: The Bintulu International Kite Festival (BIKF) 2025 is more than just a cultural showcase, as it serves as a key driver for local tourism and economic development.
Tanjong Batu Assemblyman, Johnny Pang Leong Ming said this year’s festival brought together 160 kite flyers from 29 countries, including first-time participants from Haiti, Macau (China), and Tamil Nadu (India).
He noted that the festival has successfully positioned Bintulu as a competitive, tourist-friendly global destination.
“BIKF attracts thousands of visitors to Bintulu, stimulating economic activity and creating opportunities for small entrepreneurs and local vendors. This proves how high-impact events can uplift communities and strengthen Sarawak’s image as an international tourism hub,” he said when officiating the festival at the Old Bintulu Airport site recently.
Johnny Pang also highlighted that BIKF’s success aligns with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined by Sarawak Premier , Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.
“BIKF is the result of synergy between multiple stakeholders, government agencies, strategic partners, NGOs, and the Bintulu community itself. This collaboration has made it possible to deliver a world-class event,” he added.
He also extended his appreciation to the volunteers, Brotherhood Kite Club, and the BIKF 2025 Vendors’ Booth Management Committee.
At the same time, he encouraged both local and international visitors to make Bintulu their preferred destination, not only for the festival but also to enjoy its cultural attractions, natural beauty, and warm hospitality. -UKASnews
