KUCHING: Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, on Friday received a farewell courtesy call from Sarawak Police Commissioner, Dato’ Mancha Ata, at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi ahead of his mandatory retirement.

Dato’ Mancha said the meeting marked his final official visit as Sarawak Police Commissioner ahead of his mandatory retirement on 29 September.

“I wish to express my gratitude to the Premier of Sarawak and the entire state leadership for their support, trust, and cooperation throughout my tenure.

“As a son of Sarawak, I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve in my homeland,” he told reporters after the visit.

He added that the handover ceremony to the new Sarawak Police Commissioner will be held on 26 September.

Dato’ Mancha expressed confidence that his successor, Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, 47, would continue efforts to safeguard public order and the well-being of Sarawakians.

“I believe my successor will carry this mission forward even better,” he remarked.

Reflecting on his service, Dato’ Mancha affirmed that Sarawak has remained safe and secure during his leadership.

“I can assure that not only crime rates, but overall safety has been well maintained during my tenure as Sarawak Police Commissioner,” he said.

Hailing from Asajaya, Samarahan, Dato’ Mancha is the first Dayak to be appointed Sarawak Police Commissioner.

He took over the role in November 2023 after serving as Deputy Sarawak Police Commissioner from 2021 to 2023.

Throughout his career in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), he served in Perak and Sabah before returning home to Sarawak.

Spanning nearly three decades in Perak, he later served in Sabah as Deputy Commander of the General Operations Force (GOF) Brigade before returning to Sarawak to assume several key positions, including GOF Brigade Commander, and eventually Sarawak Police Commissioner. -UKASnews
