BINTULU: The Technical Committee under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) is working closely with the Federal Government to identify the rights of Sarawak and Sabah that have been eroded or unfulfilled, and to reclaim them in line with the original spirit of the agreement.
 
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said to date, 13 out of 29 demands from Sarawak and Sabah have been resolved.
 
He said issues that have been addressed include the recognition of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Public Works Department (JKR) and the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) as technical departments, the participation of state representatives in the Inland Revenue Board, greater control over gas distribution and electricity regulation, as well as the return of Bintulu Port as a state port.
 
“These demands are highly complex, but they are important and ongoing under the leadership of Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim who has reaffirmed his commitment to resolving the matter fairly and within the proper framework.
 
“It is a constitutional recognition that validates our claims and strengthens our position,” he said.
 
He said this in his text-of-speech read by Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during the Interfaith Thanksgiving Ceremony in conjunction with the 2025 Sarawak-Level Malaysia Day celebration at a hotel here, on Sunday.
 
Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari added that other achievements include the implementation of Year 6 examinations for core subjects such as English, Science, and Mathematics.
 
This also covers the continued use of English for Science and Mathematics under the Dual Language Programme, he said.
 
Touching on other matters, he said the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Government has continued to demonstrate strong and visionary leadership for the future of Sarawak.
 
“The GPS Government consistently pursues proactive and strategic policies, particularly under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, to diversify the economy and increase state revenue, thus laying the foundation for a more prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable Sarawak.
 
“This economic transformation is being driven through several key sectors including the green economy, renewable energy, digital technology, and high-value industries,” he stressed.
 
Also present were Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Sarawak Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development who is also the Minister-In-Charge of the 2025 Sarawak-Level Malaysia Day celebration, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, Deputy Ministers, Director of the Unit For Other Religions (UNIFOR), Dato Georgina Apphia Ngau, heads of departments, representatives of religious leaders, and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
