KUCHING: Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, spent some leisurely time having breakfast at Old Rex Corner, here, on Saturday.

Also present were Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi's daughters, Sharifah Fariah and Sharifah Nong-Jasima, and her husband, Hakeem.

His presence attracted the attention of the public who also took the opportunity to shake hands and take commemorative photos.

According to the owner of Old Rex Corner, Sim Kian Hock, his family's coffee shop has been operating since 1967 and has often been Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi's choice for breakfast since before he was appointed as Sarawak Governor.

“Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi always comes to our shop, almost every month or two months.

“He is really friendly with everyone, as soon as he arrives, he will shake hands with customers and often spend time with the people in the shop.

“He never asks for special treatment, instead he eats and drinks like a normal customer,” he said when met.

Old Rex Corner started as a small coffee shop around the Rex cinema once upon a time.

After that, they moved to Rubber Road for 17 years before operating in a new premises on Jalan Nanas for more than four years.

The coffee shop still maintains traditional menus such as mee kolok, laksa Sarawak, mee Jawa and cucur udang which continue to be the choice of customers including the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak himself.- UKASnews
