Malaysia–Brunei Joint Exercise Bolsters Regional Defence Readiness

MIRI: Malaysia and Brunei have reaffirmed their commitment to regional security through the launch of Eksesais Malbru Setia Series 17/2025 and Eksesais Mertak Bersatu Series 15/2025.

Commander of the 1st Infantry Division of Malaysia, Major General Dato’ Khairul Anuar Abd Aziz said, the exercise aimed at strengthening joint operational readiness and deepening military cooperation between the two nations.

He said the exercise serves as a platform for both forces to enhance their capabilities in tackling evolving threats.

“This exercise emphasises the role of troops in counter-insurgency so that they become more agile, dynamic and balanced,” he said during the event held here today.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Forces, Colonel Muhammad Wata Abdullah Awat, added that the exercise demonstrates the strong and dynamic alliance between Malaysia and Brunei.

“It is not only a tactical exercise, but also an important platform to prepare our forces to face modern and asymmetric threats together,” he said.

The opening ceremony, held at the 20th Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment (20 RAMD) parade ground, featured a full military parade, the symbolic presentation of the Toha insignia, the handover of the 1st TDDB Battalion Company flag, exchange of souvenirs and a spirited triple chant of “Gempur Wira” by participants.

The joint exercise, which runs from 11 to 16 September, involves 250 personnel comprising 20 officers and 230 other ranks from both armies.

Also present were Commander of the 31st Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Azman Md Zain, and Commanding Officer of 20 RAMD, Lieutenant Colonel Mohd. Izwan Ramli, who also served as Parade Commander. -UKASnews
