GUANGZHOU: Sarawak has taken another bold step by bringing its green mobility vision to the international stage.

Sarawak Transport Minister, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, said on Thursday that the state’s achievements in sustainable mobility, green hydrogen development, and digital innovation in transportation have positioned it as a regional model for clean and future-ready public transport systems.

“The Kuching Urban Transit System (KUTS) is Sarawak’s flagship project — the world’s first hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system outside of China.

“Sarawak is also driving various other innovations in public transport, including the Free Smart Bus Programme in Miri, which uses Bus Signal Priority (BSP) technology — the same technology applied in KUTS — as well as the E-Penambang Project, where traditional riverboats have been upgraded with electric engines and supported by Sarawak’s first solar-powered floating charging station,” he said.

He was delivering a keynote address at the 2nd Guangzhou International Exhibition on New Energy and Digital Technologies for Public Transport today.

Dato Sri Lee also shared Sarawak’s upcoming transport plans, including the development of a new Kuching International Airport designed to handle 15 million passengers annually, the establishment of Sarawak’s own airline, AirBorneo, and a proposed Bintulu–Samalaju Transit System.

“Our transport transformation is not just about moving people, but about moving towards a greener, more connected, and more sustainable future,” he added.

In a further recognition of Sarawak’s efforts, Lee was interviewed by the *People’s Public Transportation Journal*, the only nationally recognised publication dedicated to China’s public transport industry.

In the interview, he reaffirmed Sarawak’s commitment to applying new energy and digital innovations in building a low-carbon, smart and integrated public transport system. -UKASnews
