BETONG: The 7th edition of the Layar Cycling Carnival (LCC) 2025 kicked off in grand fashion after being officiated by Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu, at the RTC Betong Futsal Arena.

Organised by the Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Betong Division in collaboration with SABERKAS Layar Branch and the Sarawak Cycling Association, the event attracted 275 riders from 30 teams, including international participants from Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, South Africa and Peninsular Malaysia.

According to Organising Chairman, Jason Ng Boon Tuan, the carnival, held from August 29 to 31, features two main events, which are, the Criterium Race and the 102KM Road Race, divided into eight categories.

“Layar Cycling Carnival has become an important platform to nurture local talent, providing opportunities for them to progress to higher levels, while also promoting Betong as an international sports destination.

“This year, we are offering total prizes worth RM51,260, and for the next edition, the prize for the road race will be doubled,” he said.

The opening ceremony was enlivened with cultural performances, traditional dances by various ethnic groups, and entertainment by invited artists.

Also present were Director of the Sarawak Youth and Sports Department, Lamat Nyalau, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Dolhadi Marzuki, Betong District Officer, Laga Kueh and Executive Secretary of the United Sarawak National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS), Izwan Haironi. -UKASnews
