KUCHING: The Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) will once again come alive as the venue for the Borderland Music Festival 2025, scheduled to take place on 5–6 September.
The event marks the third edition of the festival and is expected to draw a crowd of 20,000 over two days.
Deputy Minister for Tourism, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, representing Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, noted that the festival’s rapid growth since its debut in Miri in 2023 with 3,000 attendees.
“Last year, Kuching hosted 6,000 people, and this year we are expecting 20,000. Borderland reflects Sarawak’s readiness to claim a place on the global stage of modern festivals,” he said.
This year’s edition will showcase more than 60 international and local artists from 15 countries, including acts such as Da Tweekaz, Darren Styles, Beauz, Wukong, Whisnu Santika, and Sarawak’s own Belle Sisoski.
In addition to music, festival-goers can expect cultural performances, food showcases, workshops, and a first-of-its-kind 360° Heineken stage experience.
The Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) remains the main sponsor of Borderland, supported by key partners including Heineken, Pullman, and Sheraton, alongside other corporate sponsors.
Datuk Sebastian Ting called on Sarawakians and visitors alike to support the festival and experience Sarawak’s unique offerings.
“Borderland is about music, culture, and community. It is a platform for our local talents to grow, and a driver for tourism, hotels, and the economy. This festival is built by the people, for the people,” he said.
Also present were Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Julin Alen, and Principal Assistant Secretary of the MTCP Events Section, Tracy Evon, alongside Event Organiser Ing Xiang Ming, also known as Tiger Ming of Borderland Events Sdn Bhd, and Co-Organiser Ben, together with festival sponsors and partners. -UKASnews
