LAWAS: The Sarawak Government is committed to continuing the Sarawak Poor Home Improvement Project (PPRMS) which has been implemented since 2018 with a fixed allocation of RM1 million per year for each Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Assemblyman.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this programme affirms the state government's concern in helping the needy, especially those living in dilapidated and unsafe houses.
“The implementation of this programme is done through ‘gotong-royong’ with the collaboration of the Sarawak Legislative Constituency Service Centre, government departments, district offices, Public Works Department and community leaders.
“Priority is given to applicants who are truly qualified and have received confirmation by local community leaders,” he said when officiating the PPRMS Ceremony in Kampung Ladang Baru, Lawas on Sunday.
To date, the assistance distributed has not only involved house repairs, but also reconstruction of dilapidated houses.
In addition, the Bukit Sari Assemblyman explained that the state government has also provided a special housing scheme for people who own their own land and intend to build a house.
The scheme offers easier and more flexible financing facilities, making Sarawak the only state in Malaysia to provide such a scheme.
Datuk Amar Awang Tengah also announced that the state government plans to implement more new housing projects, including village expansion and relocation.
The projects will be developed according to the latest specifications including paved roads, concrete ditches, retaining walls, clean water supply and electricity, with a land premium of only RM2,500 which can be paid in installments.
The same ceremony also witnessed the symbolic implementation of the programme when Datuk Amar Awang Tengah together with Member of Parliament for Lawas, Dato Henry Sum Agong visited the homes of aid recipients.
Also present were Limbang Division Resident, Unus Tambi, Department of Irrigation and Drainage Sarawak Director, Datu Ir. Ts Ahmad Denney Ahmad Fauzi, Lawas District Officer, Ladin Atok, NRDA Regional Director, Datu Ubaidillah Abdul Latif and other guests. -UKASnews
