MATU: The Kampung Bawang Community Health Programme held in conjunction with Independence Month 2025 serves an important platform in raising community awareness of the importance of maintaining health, in addition to strengthening the spirit of unity and togetherness of the local community.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Dato' Murshid Diraja Dr. Juanda Jaya said that the active participation of the community in the programme proves that the spirit of independence is not only expressed through the flying the Jalur Gemilang, but also translated through efforts to maintain personal and family well-being.

"This programme is very significant because it carries an important message to raise awareness about health, detect the risk of chronic diseases early and provide education on the correct management of medicines to ensure they are safe and registered," he said.

He said this when speaking at the opening ceremony of the programme at the Dewan Muhibbah Haji Mahdi, Kampung Bawang on Sunday.

According to the Jemoreng Assemblyman, the programme also serves as a platform to disseminate information about mySalam which provides health protection to the people, encourages blood donation as a charitable act that can save lives, and introduces the role of security agencies such as the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), as well as the various services they provide.

“Programmes like this can strengthen the spirit of ‘gotong-royong’, and cooperation among villagers, in addition to making Dewan Muhibbah Haji Mahdi a landmark of community cohesion and a center for beneficial activities for all,” he added.
