Sultan Of Selangor Endorses Establishment Of Veterinary Course At UPM Sarawak To Produce More Veterinarians

BINTULU: His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj, Sultan of Selangor, has consented to Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bintulu Campus’s proposal to establish the largest veterinary course in Malaysia.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, said the initiative is crucial in producing more graduates in the field of veterinary medicine in the state.

“It is true that the Sultan gave his consent during the discussion, recognising Sarawak’s vast potential in agriculture and livestock development.

“Therefore, His Royal Highness approved the establishment of a dedicated school in Bintulu, which will be the largest in Malaysia,” he said.

He made the announcement when officiating Sarawak Agrofest 2025 at the Old Bintulu Airport on Saturday.

In addition, the Sarawak Premier also launched the “Sarawak Veterinary Registered” logo and presented several awards, namely the Successful Food Crop Entrepreneur Award, Successful Agro-based Industry Entrepreneur Award, Successful Inland Fisheries Entrepreneur Award, Successful Area Farmers’ Organisation Award, Successful Livestock Breeder Award, and Sarawak Agropreneur Icon Award.

Present were Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Sarawak Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom, Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers, department heads and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
