KUCHING: The Kasih Padi Bonda theatrical play directed by Rushdi Mornie Daud touched the hearts of the audience in telling the story of Dara, a steadfast mother who made sacrifices to see her children succeed after the passing of her beloved husband.
The script by Nooruddin Ismail Talab was staged at the Balai Budaya Cultural Centre , Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak Branch with emotion, revealing the values of love, perseverance, sacrifice and life's struggle that is close to the community.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol expressed his appreciation to the production team and DBP for organising the play which not only featured experienced actors, but also involved the participation of primary and secondary school students.
"This production is not only interesting in terms of stage performances, but also because it involves many youths.
"I admire the combination of veteran actors with primary and secondary school students. Congratulations to this production for successfully delivering the message about a mother's sacrifice so effectively," he said when attending the theatrical performance on Friday night.
He also said the main challenge for today's theatre groups is finding a suitable training space.
"The only challenge they have is finding a suitable place for them to practice and so on.
"And God willing, in two more years from now, the arts centre being built in the old DUN building will be completed. I am confident that arts activities such as theatre, musicals and many other stage performances will be more encouraging," he said.
Datuk Abdullah also hoped that theatre performances could be expanded to rural areas so that people in other districts also have the opportunity to enjoy quality performing arts that are close to the people's hearts.
According to him, theatre not only functions as entertainment, but also plays a role in educating the community by delivering messages that are close to the reality of the people's daily lives.
Kasih Padi Bonda Theatre once again proves that performing arts are not just entertainment, but rather an effective medium in delivering humanitarian messages and strengthening the cultural values of the nation.
The ceremony was also attended by the Director of DBP Sarawak Branch, Dr. Azizul Ismail, Director of the Sarawak State National Registration Department, Mahathir Buang, Director of the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit, Abdul Wahab Rahim, Director of the Batu Lintang Campus Teacher Education Institute, Dr. Abang Ismail Julhi and Chairman of the Bintang Cahaya Kuching Dramatists' Association, Noor Kartika Rushdi.- UKASnews
