KUCHING: The Housing Development Ordinance (HDO) and the Housing Building Ordinance are expected to be tabled at the next Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian, said the ordinances are vital to ensure Sarawak keeps pace with present needs while reinforcing the state’s autonomy in housing and construction matters.
“I have received confirmation from the State Attorney General that the bills will be tabled in the next sitting, as this is something we are eager to see happen,” said Datuk Amar Dr. Sim.
He said many parties, including SHEDA, Bomba, and the Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia-Sarawak Chapter (PAM), have contributed to this effort because we need to move in step with the times.
“This also reflects Sarawak’s right to manage its own affairs,” he said in his speech, delivered after reading the Premier’s address at the SHEDA Property Expo at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Friday.
Datuk Amar Dr. Sim also spoke on financial support for SHEDA\:ENCORE, noting that while contributions could be channelled through various agencies, the Premier of Sarawak would play a central role.
He added, other agencies, including the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia, can provide allocations.
However, he noted that the Premier’s contribution will form the main share of support. -UKASNews
