SARIKEI: Several road and plankwalk projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2024 have been successfully completed in Meradong, bringing improved accessibility and convenience to local residents.

Representing Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii, at the official handover ceremony on Friday morning was Wong Soon Mee, accompanied by Churchill Barrak, Assistant Engineer of the Meradong and Julau District Council.

Dato’ Sri Huang, who is also Member of Parliament for Sarikei and Repok Assemblyman, said the RTP initiatives demonstrate the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening rural infrastructure and transportation facilities.

“These projects not only improve daily mobility for villagers but also raise the overall quality of life, ease the movement of goods, and create new economic opportunities in rural communities,” he said.

Among the completed works are road upgrades at Jalan Kertong (Jalan Chai Hing), Jalan Hua Kiew Sungai Tulai, and Jalan Soon Sing Sungai Bakong, as well as access roads leading to Rumah Panjang Sembambu Seli, Rumah Panjang Mary Juwin, and Rumah Panjang Adam Empeni.

In addition, new plankwalks have been completed at Rumah Bajik Sungai Tulai and Rumah Empani Budom Sungai Meradong, offering residents safer and more convenient routes.

Villagers have expressed their appreciation to Dato’ Sri Huang for his consistent commitment to rural development and for securing funds to upgrade local infrastructure. -UKASnews
