Sarawak U18 Shines With Quarterfinal Finish At National Interstate Championship

PENANG: The Sarawak Under-18 badminton squad lit up the courts at the PETRONAS National Interstate Mixed Team Championship 2025, storming their way into the quarterfinals before bowing out gallantly to top-seeded Penang.

Defying expectations as one of the lower-seeded sides, the young Sarawakians captured attention with their grit, spirit and unyielding teamwork to earn a proud last-eight finish.

The boys’ line-up featured Ho Sin Hong, Jack Huong, Chung Jia Ho, Mohamad Najib Haqimi, Chong Yan Cheng, Leong Ming Kai, Jared Foo, and Leacus Tang, while the girls’ team showcased the talents of Genevie Lim, Wafa Shahmina Rahman, Janice Tchin, Julia Yek, Avee Lee Han, Wendy Feebie, and April Lee.

The squad was steered with passion and precision by coaches Ichwansyah Rusli Ali and Mohamad Razlan Shah.

SBA Honorary Secretary and Team Manager, Datuk Dr. Wan Khalik, hailed the performance as a significant breakthrough.

“This reflects the hard work of our players, coaches, and staff. It’s a clear sign that our development programmes are paying off as we shape the next generation of champions,” he said with pride.

The Sarawak Badminton Association is optimistic that this inspiring campaign will fuel the players’ hunger for success in upcoming tournaments, while extending heartfelt appreciation to parents and loyal supporters for their unwavering belief in the team. -UKASnews
