Sarawak Governor Graces ASEAN Law Forum 2025 Ministerial Dinner

KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi graced the Ministerial Dinner in conjunction with the ASEAN Law Forum 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), on Wednesday.

The arrival of Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah was welcomed by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Dato’ Seri Azalina Othman Said, accompanied by Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and his wife, Datin Sri Zuraini Abdul Jaabar.

As a symbolic gesture to mark the officiation, the Sarawak Governor struck the gong three times, signifying the commencement of the prestigious event which gathered over 300 participants comprising legal experts, judges, lawyers, and regional scholars.

After the banquet, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi together with Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah and Dato’ Seri Azalina also took part in a batik colouring activity featuring the ASEAN inscription before attending a casual durian-tasting session at Sky Garden, KLCC.

Among the distinguished guests present were ASEAN Secretary-General, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, President of the Senate, Senator Dato Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, President of the Court of Appeal, Dato’ Abu Bakar Jais, Chief Justice of the High Court of Malaya, Tan Sri Hasnah Dato’ Mohamed Hashim, and Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Dato’ Azizah Nawawi.

Also in attendance were ASEAN Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Law, including representatives from Timor Leste.

In his brief address, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi expressed hope that the ASEAN Law Forum 2025, taking place from 19 to 21 August, will serve as a platform to formulate joint resolutions in facing new legal challenges including those related to technology, the environment, and human rights.

He expressed confidence that this forum will highlight Malaysia's commitment in upholding the rule of law while further strengthening legal cooperation within ASEAN. -UKASnews
