BINTANGOR: The spirit of community cooperation and environmental awareness was the highlight during the launch of the ‘Kampungku Sejahtera 2025’ programme officiated by Meradong Assemblyman, Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing at the Bintangor Community Hall this morning.
Now in its third year, the initiative organised by the Maradong and Julau District Council (MDMJ) aims to strengthen community bonds, promote sustainable habits, and foster a culture of environmental responsibility through the 3R principles, namely Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
In his speech, Datuk Ding lauded the programme as a step towards long-term sustainability.
He emphasised that as the locals live close to nature, neglecting cleanliness could result in blocked drains, foul odours, and even health hazards.
“Cleanliness must not be treated as a once-a-year effort. It should be a daily practice that brings unity and pride to our communities,” he said.
The Meradong Assemblyman further highlighted the programme’s social impact, noting that activities such as gotong-royong unite residents of all ages, strengthen communal ties, and enhance the local environment.
“This collective effort is the true strength of our village and longhouse communities,” he added.
He also proposed forming a Village Green Team or 3R Squad to serve as sustainability ambassadors.
These groups would work with local authorities to promote composting, community gardens, and recycling banks, integrating green practices into daily rural life, he said.
Meanwhile, MDMJ Secretary, Lau Chi Sing also urged residents to participate in the programme and contribute to a sustainable future.
Among other dignitaries present were Councillor Tang Kieh Ming, Pemanca Yii Hee Sieng, and Pemanca Rapen Anga. -UKASnews
