KUCHING: The Sarawak Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (SAGGA), in collaboration with the Malaysian Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (MAGGA), successfully organised the Sarawak AGG Inter-School Competition 2025 at Dewan Sa’ati, SUPP Headquarters, marking another milestone in the sport’s development in the state.

The event attracted more than 150 gymnasts aged between seven and 18, representing schools, studios, and clubs across Sarawak and Sabah.

Supported by their teachers and coaches, the young athletes showcased the expanding grassroots reach of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (AGG).

As part of the MAGGA-endorsed School Programme, the competition featured compulsory AGG routines in the U10, U12, and U18 categories, providing a structured pathway from school-level participation to National Assessment (NAD) programmes and IFAGG-sanctioned international events.

Batu Kitang Assemblyman, Dato Ir. Lo Khere Chiang, who officiated at the event, commended the competition as more than a sport, describing it as a celebration of passion, perseverance, and the boundless potential of young Sarawakians and Sabahans.

He emphasised AGG’s role in nurturing unity, discipline, and respect among youth, while reminding participants of the importance of balancing athletic achievement with education.

He reaffirmed his support for the sport’s growth by presenting SAGGA with a RM3,000 contribution to further its development.

“Sabah and Sarawak are more than neighbours; we are family, woven together by shared histories, cultures, and hopes for our children’s futures,” he said.

Representing MAGGA was Secretary General, Sarah Sarraj, who conveyed greetings on behalf of MAGGA President Dato’ Abdul Malek Noor and reiterated the association’s support for school-based AGG programmes.

Sarawak schools and studios represented at the competition included SJKC Sungai Apong, SJKC Sungai Lubak, SJKC Batu 4 ½, SJKC Chung Hua No. 6, Mine Studio, Track & Dance Studio, and Rainbow RG Club from Sibu.

From Sabah, participants came from SJK (C) St. James Kota Kinabalu and LK Dream House under the Invitational Category.

During the event, SAGGA also presented Special Awards to former committee members who served from 2019–2025 in recognition of their dedication to laying the foundation for AGG’s growth in Sarawak.

The organisers extended their gratitude to sponsors MILO and Jerald’s Cookies & Desserts for their support, as well as to teachers, coaches, parents, and volunteers whose efforts contributed to the event’s success. -UKASnews
