Sarawak Explores Potential Investment Opportunities With Japan In Aviation & Aerospace Sector

TOKYO: Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan continued his engagement with the Civil Aviation Division of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) on proposed strategic investment in the aviation sector during a high-level meeting held at the office of MLIT in Tokyo, on Wednesday.

According to a statement, the Sarawak delegation led by the Deputy Premier met with senior executives from Airport Facilities Co., Ltd., Airport Facilities Asia Pte Ltd, and JALUX Incorporated to explore potential collaboration in establishing a world-class Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) hub in the state.

“During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on Sarawak’s strategic advantages for aviation investment, including its growing air connectivity, central location in Southeast Asia, and strong support for high-value industries.

“The Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) stressed that the State Government is committed to creating an enabling environment for foreign investors through competitive incentives, skilled workforce development, and strategic infrastructure investments,” it said on Wednesday.

The engagement is part of Sarawak’s broader mission in Japan to strengthen trade, investment, and technology partnerships across key sectors, reinforcing the State’s role as a dynamic gateway to ASEAN.

Also present during the meeting were MINTRED Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr. Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Sarawak Financial Secretary, Dato Sri Dr. Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, MINTRED Permanent Secretary, Dzulkornain Masron, MINTRED Deputy Permanent Secretary, Syed Mohamad Fauzi Shahab, General Manager of Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), Datu Zaidi Mahdi, Chief Executive Officer of InvestSarawak, Timothy Ong, SMA Chief Scientist and Chief Advisor, Professor Jugdutt (Jack) Singh, MIDA Tokyo Director, Izran Abdullah, and senior government officials. -UKASnews
