Prospective NEC Partnership Can Boost Digital & Green Economy Agenda

TOKYO: The formation of cooperative ties between Sarawak and NEC Corporation is welcomed to drive digital transformation and sustainable growth particularly in areas of digital government, aviation, and cyber security.

According to Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, public-private partnerships and targeted investments including in Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, integrated circuit design, and digital services are key to realise the state’s development strategies.

He underscored Sarawak’s commitment to become an economy that is renewable resource-based, environmentally sustainable, as well as technology-driven.

“Our vision is to build a resilient, inclusive, and innovation-led economy, supported by clean energy, advanced digital infrastructure, and high-skilled talent.

“Partnerships with global technology leaders such as NEC can facilitate us in achieving these goals, bringing benefits to both investors and the local community through job creation, technology transfer, and economic spin-offs,” he said when speaking at the NEC Super Tower, here on Tuesday.

At the same meeting, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah also outlined Sarawak’s strategic vision to accelerate its Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint (SDE) 2030.

As such, the Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) invited NEC Corporation to explore strategic digital and sustainable investments in Sarawak, noting that the state offers competitive electricity and water tariffs, attractive tax incentives, a skilled workforce, and a business-friendly environment.

“Our journey towards a developed and sustainable Sarawak by 2030 is a shared opportunity.

“With NEC’s expertise and our vision, we can create lasting value for investors, communities, and the environment,” he added.

Also present were MINTRED Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr. Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Sarawak Financial Secretary, Dato Sri Dr. Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, SME Advisor at MINTRED, Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais, MINTRED Permanent Secretary, Dzulkornain Masron, and other senior officials from the Sarawak Government delegation. -UKASnews
