Sarawak & Denmark Explore Green Collaboration For Sustainable Transportation

KUCHING: Sarawak and Denmark are exploring potential collaboration in the field of green transport and sustainable energy as part of efforts to strengthen the state's sustainable development agenda.

The Ambassador of Denmark to Malaysia, Kirstine Vangkilde Berner, paid a courtesy call on the Sarawak Minister for Transport (MOTS), Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin on Friday to discuss research and development collaboration in hydrogen technology, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and low-carbon emission transportation innovation in Sarawak.

During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed Denmark’s support for Sarawak’s ambitious development vision, particularly in advancing environmentally friendly and future-ready transportation systems.

Dato Sri Lee briefed the delegation on the ministry’s key initiatives, including the ongoing development of the Kuching Urban Transportation System’s (KUTS) hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system, which is the first of its kind in Malaysia, underscoring Sarawak’s commitment to sustainability and green hydrogen as a clean energy source.

He also shared updates on the planned construction of the new Kuching International Airport, which will serve as a modern gateway to the region and a catalyst for economic growth.

Dato Sri Lee said the ministry looks forward to forging closer ties with Denmark in technology exchange, expertise sharing, and joint projects that align with Sarawak’s sustainable transport and green energy agenda.

Also present at the meeting were MOTS’ Deputy Permanent Secretary, Selamat Jati Yanjah, Aviation Technical Advisor, Sio Yew Hua, Embassy of Denmark’s Head of Trade, Mark Perry, Commercial Advisor, Jennifer Tang, and Counsellor for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Kristian Norfelt. -UKASnews
