KUCHING: The monthly Ibu Pertiwi Flag Raising Ceremony will be officiated by Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki on 10 August 2025 at Dataran Pertiwi.
As the symbol of the pride of the homeland, the Ibu Pertiwi flag as one of the most iconic landmarks in this city, will be raised with full custom and order.
The giant flag measuring 25-metres long and 12.4-metres wide will be hoisted on a pole 99.4 metres high, symbolising the spirit of identity and unity of the city's citizens that has never faded.
The ceremony will begin with a Guard of Honour consisting of members of the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU).
Next, the ceremony will continue with the singing of the Sarawak state anthem, ‘Ibu Pertiwi’ and to further enliven the atmosphere and showcase the state's cultural richness, this ceremony will also be graced with a special performance featuring elements of local heritage art, reflecting the harmony of various races in the state.
The Ibu Pertiwi Flag Raising Ceremony is among the efforts to strengthen the spirit of patriotism and unity among the people of Sarawak.
Since July 2024, the Ibu Pertiwi Flag Raising Ceremony has been performed by the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg and made a monthly ceremony.
DBKU remains committed to its vision and establishes this monthly ceremony as a platform to express love for the homeland through the majestic symbol of the Ibu Pertiwi flag hoisted at the main landmark of Kuching city.
In addition, it also serves to strengthen the spirit of identity and patriotism among the city's citizens, in line with the aspirations of the state leadership, as well as strengthens racial unity and encourages active participation of the community in cultural and national events.
DBKU expressed its gratitude for the guidance and encouragement of the Sarawak Premier who has always fostered upstanding values among the people of Sarawak, and is committed to continuing this tradition as a symbol of harmony and pride of the state.
