KUCHING: Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi have received a courtesy visit from the delegation of the Peta Benak Sri Aman 2025 Main Organising Committee.
Led by Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development and Simanggang Assemblyman Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, the main purpose of the visit was to extend an official invitation to the Head of State and his wife to officiate at the closing ceremony of the festival scheduled to take place on 21 September at the Sri Aman Waterfront.
During the meeting, Datuk Francis presented information regarding the organisation of the festival with the theme ‘Explore the Uniqueness and Challenges of the Benak Phenomenon in Batang Lupar, Sri Aman’, which will be held from 19 to 21 September.
This festival is expected to continue to be an important platform in promoting the uniqueness of the Benak phenomenon as a tourist attraction, in addition to stimulating the economic growth of the local community through the participation of various sectors.
In this regard, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah expressed their support for this organising effort and voiced a proposal for the Sarawak Government to consider establishing a training centre in Sri Aman that could function as both an exhibition space for agricultural products and a learning hub offering TVET-based skill development.
The proposed centre aims to provide local communities with a platform to showcase and market their agricultural produce, while also offering technical skills training for school leavers who did not complete Form 3 or Form 5, equipping them with certifications to access better employment opportunities.
Also joining the delegation were Sri Aman Division Resident, Mahra Salleh, Sri Aman District Officer, Shariff Bujang, Sri Aman District Council Secretary, Mohd Rizal Zakaria, and others. -UKASnews
