CYBERJAYA: The Wind Orchestra team of Sekolah Menengah Sains Kuching, proudly known as SainsKu Winds, has made Sarawak beam with pride after clinching a Silver Award at the prestigious 23rd National Full Residential Schools (SBP) Wind Orchestra Festival, held at Multimedia University (MMU) in Cyberjaya.
In a musical showdown featuring 18 top full residential schools from all over Malaysia, SainsKu Winds stood tall as the only representative from East Malaysia – a true East Malaysian force in a national arena.
Among the elite schools present were Sekolah Seri Puteri, Sekolah Alam Shah, Malay College Kuala Kangsar, and Kolej Tunku Kurshiah. The overall title went to SM Sains Selangor.
A team of 42 spirited students, guided by five dedicated teachers, made the journey from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur – not just to compete, but to make a statement. And they certainly did.
Moving up from a Bronze Award last year to Silver this year, their stellar performance reflected months of discipline, commitment, and unwavering teamwork.
Fuelled by passion and guided by excellence, the team was trained under the baton of school alumnus Muhammad Akmal Khalish, who returned to his alma mater to lead as head coach.
Alongside him was Janice Chuat, the ever-supportive teacher advisor, who stood by the team with both technical expertise and emotional encouragement from start to finish.
“This Silver Award is just the beginning,” said Janice. “It’s a stepping stone for us to push forward. We hope to keep this momentum going and let the sound of SainsKu Winds soar to greater heights in the years to come.”
Since its formation in 2002, SainsKu Winds has grown into more than just a musical ensemble.
It has become a powerful platform that nurtures young talent, instils discipline, encourages collaboration, and shapes strong character within the school community. -UKASnews
