MIRI: The rural stop-and-go bus service connecting Miri with inland areas such as Long Lama, Bekenu and Simpang Ngu (Batu Niah) is now being strengthened with the addition of daily trips and route reorganisation starting 1 August 2025.

The launching ceremony was held at the Wisma Pelita Tunku Bus Station and officiated by Sarawak Minister of Transport and Senadin Assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.

Also present were Telang Usan Assemblyman, Dato Dennis Ngau and representatives of the service operator, Miri Transport Company Sdn. Bhd. (MTC).

Dato Sri Lee in his speech explained that the service is not new, but was first introduced on a trial basis on 8 March and received an encouraging response from rural residents, especially in Long Lama.

According to him, this initiative was driven by requests from local elected representatives and implemented with the full support of the Sarawak Ministry of Transport and approval from the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP).

The three main routes involved in this restructuring are the Miri–Bekenu–Miri route, Miri–Simpang Ngu (Batu Niah)–Miri, and Miri–Long Lama–Miri, with each offering four return trips daily.

This effort is expected to reduce the burden of travel costs for rural residents and open up more economic opportunities through more efficient transportation.

Meanwhile, Dato Sri Lee also stated that the ministry is willing to consider the construction of a minibus terminal in Long Lama if the response to this service remains encouraging, in addition to the additional trips that can also be implemented during festive seasons or when there is increased demand from users.-UKASnews
