SIMANGGANG: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) continues to demonstrate its high commitment in helping disaster victims when it disbursed assistance totaling RM66,900 to fire victims in Kampung Tengah, Simanggang through the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
The assistance covers various basic needs including pocket money, clothing, kitchen equipment, school supplies, building materials and daily necessities, thus proving the government's preparedness in dealing with the initial impact of the post-disaster comprehensively.
In addition, the National Welfare Foundation (YKN) also provided immediate assistance to each head of household through the Tabung Bantuan Segera totaling RM300, as an initial initiative to help victims restart their lives after the incident.
The Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri also expressed her appreciation for the swift action and efficient coordination by the Sri Aman District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD), which is chaired by the Sri Aman District Officer and supervised by the Sri Aman Division Resident.
“The integrated approach and rapid coordination driven by various agencies under the JPBD is a reflection of the efficiency of our disaster management system.
"This effort is very commendable and should be used as a benchmark in crisis management at the district level," he said when he went to the field to inspect the condition of fire victims in Kampung Tengah Simanggang at the Dewan Seri Lemanak Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS), Jalan Stawang, on Friday night.
The visit was also joined by Lingga Assemblywoman, Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor to provide moral support to the victims.
Meanwhile, Dayang Noorazah also presented a total contribution of RM11,500 to all the families of the victims, a combination of the special allocation from the Assemblywoman and her own personal contribution.
In total, eight houses were affected in the incident on July 30, involving 21 victims from five families who are currently taking shelter at the PPS.
Also present during the visit were the YKN Chief Executive Officer, Nordina Haron, Sri Aman Division Resident, Mahra Salleh, Head of the Rehabilitation and Legal Division of JKM Sarawak, Mohd Ali Taib, Sri Aman District Deputy Police Chief, DSP Neil Baginda, Sri Aman Division Social Welfare Officer, Sharifah Mordiah Syed Ali as well as representatives of agencies under the Sri Aman Divisional Disaster Management Committee. -UKASnews
