KUCHING: Sarawak marks a key milestone in strengthening the national food supply chain through live pig exports to Peninsular Malaysia, with Selangor as the first destination.
Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Rural Development, Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom said this event marks the beginning of a strategic logistics collaboration between Green Breeder Sdn Bhd and its partners.
According to him, the company plans to scale up exports and expand into other states in the future.
“Our first trial shipment of 800 pigs marks an important milestone as we assess logistics and testing protocols which were approved by the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Malaysia and DVS Sarawak.
“Once operations are stabilised, we anticipate scaling up to 2,000 pigs per week. In addition, we are actively exploring opportunities to expand into other states, including Penang and Johor.
“This will provide a revenue of RM8,000 weekly to the Sarawak Government through the certification and export permit provided by DVS Sarawak,” he explained.
He said this during the Official Loading Of Live Pigs From Kuching To Selangor Programme, here, on Friday.
Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi noted that Green Breeder Sdn Bhd currently exports 2,000 live pigs weekly to Singapore, with ongoing discussions to further increase this volume.
“We take great pride in this significant achievement, which brings us one step closer to positioning our state as a net exporter of food by 2030 under the Post Covid Development Strategy (PCDS),” he said.
He also expressed thanks to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia, DVS and DVS Selangor for giving full support in facilitating the inaugural export of live pigs from Sarawak to Peninsular Malaysia.
He further stressed that these developments bring Sarawak one step closer to its long-term vision of becoming a net exporter of food, and contribute to the broader national agenda of strengthening food security and trade resilience. -UKASnews
