LUNDU: Efforts to strengthen rural infrastructure facilities continue to be intensified through the implementation of the project to build new multipurpose halls in nine villages in the Opar constituency under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) initiative.
The site visit and handover ceremony for the initiative was held on Thursday, organised by the Lundu District Public Works Department (JKR) and officiated by Opar Assemblyman, Billy Sujang.
Also present was GKCDA Administrative Officer, Mohd Badrulhisyam Muta-ee, along with community leaders and local residents.
The nine villages involved in this project are Kampung Stum Muda, Kampung Bagak, Kampung Sebigo Dayak, Kampung Pasir Hilir, Kampung Pasir Tengah, Kampung Serayan Hulu, Kampung Sebako 1, Kampung Temaga Cina and Kampung Sedemak.
Each village received an allocation of RM450,000, bringing the total project investment to RM4.05 million.
In his speech, Billy stressed that the construction of the multipurpose hall is not only important in terms of physical facilities, but also serves as a centre for strengthening unity and community well-being.
“This multipurpose hall is not just a building, but an important space for the people to gather, carry out community activities, official ceremonies, multicultural meetings and youth programmes.
"I greatly appreciate the commitment of GKCDA and JKR in making the inclusive rural development agenda a success," he said.
He also expressed hope that this project could be a catalyst for social and economic growth at the grassroots level, in line with the Sarawak Government's aspirations to ensure balanced development between urban and rural areas. -UKASnews
