LIMBANG: The construction of the Second Sungai Limbang Bridge, which is currently at 76 percent physical progress, is expected to be fully completed by June 2026.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the construction of the bridge is part of the state's larger infrastructure development plan, including the Northern Coastal Highway (dual carriageway) and Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) Phase 2.
“The Northern Coastal Highway project will be implemented simultaneously in five packages involving the Limbang and Lawas areas. Each package will be handled by a different main company.
“Since being taken over by a new contractor in 2023, the implementation of this project has shown very good progress. All construction materials are available and the number of workers is also sufficient. This will further speed up the construction process,” he said.
He said this during a visit to the project site on Monday to review the latest developments in the construction of the bridge, which is a major catalyst in improving road connectivity in northern Sarawak.
He added that the bridge route will be an important connection to the Northern Coastal Highway and is expected to have a major impact on the smooth travel and economic development of the area across the Limbang River.
The visit was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Sarawak, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Batu Danau Assemblyman, Dato Paulus Palu Gumbang, and senior officials of the Public Works Department and related agencies.
Datuk Amar Awang Tengah was also informed about the progress of the Limbang Integrated Administrative Centre (IAC) project, which has reached more than 67 percent and is expected to be completed in May 2026.
He also stated that the proposal to build the Pendam Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex is still in the discussion stage with Brunei Darussalam.
