MIRI: Around 1,500 participants from all walks of life in Miri gathered today for a lively Zumba session, marking the energetic start to Sarawak Day 2025 celebrations.

The event, held at Miri City Stadium, was officiated by the Sarawak Minister for Transport and Minister in Charge of Sarawak Day 2025 Celebrations, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.

In his speech, Dato Sri Lee reminded the public that Sarawak Day is a powerful symbol of unity, harmony, and progress for the state.

“It is not just about commemorating Sarawak’s formation, but also about celebrating the identity and spirit of its people—united in building a brighter and more successful future together.”

He added that more important than the celebration itself is the shared spirit it represents—the spirit to stay healthy, active, and committed to contributing to our beloved state.

Touching on this year’s theme, ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’ (Progressive and Prosperous Sarawak), he said the message is deeply meaningful, as it highlights not just physical and economic achievements, but also the overall well-being of the people—including their health, unity, and quality of life.

“A prosperous Sarawak begins with healthy, resilient, and joyful citizens. 'Anak Sarawak' must be healthy to contribute. 'Anak Sarawak' must be strong to keep moving forward. And 'Anak Sarawak' must be united to go even further,” he said.

Dato Sri Lee also expressed hope that such programmes would continue regularly, engaging more people across all age groups, and eventually become part of a new lifestyle culture in Sarawak.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak, Datuk Rosey Yunus and Pujut Assemblyman, Adam Yii Siew Sang. -UKASnews
