KUCHING: The Malaysia Sarong Music Run 2025 stands as a shining example of how traditional cultural celebrations can be reimagined in a creative and youth-friendly manner.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said that reviving traditional heritage in a way that appeals to today’s generation is vital to ensure it doesn’t fade with time.
He described the event as a dynamic and refreshing expression of culture, crafted without losing the essence of tradition.
“The Malaysia Sarong Music Run proves that traditional culture can be celebrated in ways that are engaging, youth-centric, and inclusive. This is a step forward in strengthening national identity and unity,” he said.
He made these remarks during the official launch of the event in Kuching on Saturday.
Held under the theme ‘Sarong, Music and Unity’, the event saw participants complete a 5-kilometre run while donning a colourful array of uniquely styled sarongs.
The run was enlivened with live music performances, interactive art activities and cultural exhibitions, transforming it into more than just a typical running event.
Meanwhile, Chief Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier and Tupong assemblyman, Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, said the event is clear proof that creative approaches to cultural celebration can unite communities across age groups, ethnicities, and backgrounds.
With an enthusiastic turnout—especially from the younger generation—the event is seen as setting a new benchmark for cultural festivities, making tradition more accessible, meaningful, and relevant in today’s world, he added. -UKASnews
