BETONG: Good news for the people of Beladin, as Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, has approved the construction and completion of 46 new housing units at RGC Beladin using the Industrialised Building System (IBS) method.

The announcement was made by the General Manager of the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), Datu Sr Zaidi Mahdi, following his briefing to the Premier on the progress of the Beladin Fishermen Resettlement Project (PSN) during a key handover ceremony for 68 fishing families who were successfully resettled under the initiative.

In a statement issued by LCDA on Saturday, the construction of the new homes will be fully carried out by the agency as part of the Projek Rakyat initiative, with an allocation of RM22.1 million.

This latest phase follows the successful implementation of the first phase of the project, which included infrastructure works, house construction, and site improvements worth RM58.2 million, all of which were fully funded by the Sarawak Government.

According to Datu Sr Zaidi, the upcoming project will take full advantage of the existing infrastructure that has already been completed at the site.

This will allow construction works to commence immediately, eliminating the need for new site preparation—ultimately saving both time and costs in the implementation process.

This move once again demonstrates the Sarawak Government’s strong commitment to providing quality and affordable housing for the people, particularly for the fishing community, in line with the state’s inclusive and sustainable development agenda.

With the Premier’s approval, it is hoped that the construction of these 46 new homes will proceed smoothly and bring lasting benefit to the Beladin community, strengthening the wellbeing of residents under the broader framework of Sarawak’s holistic development strategy. -UKASnews
