SPAOH: Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chung Hua in Spaoh has received an additional RM750,000 in funding from the Sarawak Government to support the construction of a new school building.

Sarawak Deputy Premier and Bukit Saban Assemblyman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said the allocation reflects the government’s continued commitment to prioritising educational development in rural areas.

“Initially, the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, approved RM2 million for the project. With this additional allocation, the total funding now amounts to RM2.75 million.

“We hope the project can commence as soon as possible for the benefit of students in Spaoh,” he told reporters after presenting the allocation on Friday.

He noted that although SJKC Chung Hua is a Chinese-medium school, more than 90 per cent of its students are from the Iban and Malay communities.

“This is one of the institutions we hope will cultivate understanding and unity from an early age, allowing students to grow up in an environment of mutual respect and harmony.

“This approach also aligns with the policies of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and the Premier of Sarawak, who have also extended support to mission schools and other educational institutions,” he said.

Datuk Amar Douglas further shared that this year, the Sarawak Government has channelled RM20 million through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) to mission schools across the state. Chinese vernacular schools have also received attention through the relevant ministry.

He stressed that these initiatives are not mere rhetoric, but tangible actions with real results felt by the people—reflecting the state’s commitment to the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which emphasises inclusivity and overall well-being.

During the same ceremony, he also handed over Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants to several local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to support community and social activities in the Bukit Saban constituency.
