BETONG: Sarawak continues to witness rapid development of its road network when 11 more bridges will be completed in the near future.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the construction of the bridges is part of a total of 16 bridges that are being built throughout the state at a cost of RM5.9 billion.
According to him, among the bridges that have been completed are the Marudi Bridge, Batang Rajang Bridge, Muara Lassa Bridge, Batang Rajang Bridge and Batang Saribas Bridge, in addition to the Jepak Bridge which is expected to be inaugurated soon.
“This is the dream of the Sarawak Premier to see the journey from Kuching to Miri no longer need to use ferry services.
“This is a very noble dream and it is not just a dream but comes with an allocation of RM5.9 billion to develop these 16 bridges,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the Batang Saribas 1 Bridge Opening Ceremony here, on Saturday.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, who is also the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development of Sarawak, explained that the Sarawak Government under the leadership of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has a clear and comprehensive policy in developing the state’s infrastructure.
“His policy is to ensure that Sarawak continues to progress and the people have high incomes.
“The existing areas and infrastructures need to be developed as soon as possible.
“Therefore, the Public Works Department (JKR) has a great responsibility to implement people’s projects and other projects worth more than RM30 billion throughout Sarawak,” he added.-UKASnews
