MIRI: STEM Trailblazers 2025 is a platform for innovative education for Sarawakian children.
Sarawak Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said that this programme is not just an annual event, but an important step in shaping the future of Sarawak's young generation in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
"This programme is a platform that fuels the culture of innovation, learning and creativity among students throughout the state," he said at the STEM Trailblazers 2025 Opening Ceremony at Curtin University Malaysia on Friday.
He added that the extraordinary response received for this edition clearly shows the deep interest of the young generation in the STEM field.
It is understood that 157 entries were received for the main competition, far exceeding the initial target of 91 teams, including 28 additional entries.
In addition, Dato Sri Roland shared several important initiatives his ministry is implementing to ensure STEM education continues to grow and is accessible to all levels of society through the STEM Catalyst mobile program and the Sarawak Education Enhancement Programme (SEEP) implemented to provide free tuition to Form 3 and 5 students, especially in STEM-related subjects, including the Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES) which will begin next year.
"All these efforts are part of the larger goal under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 to make Sarawak a knowledge-based economy supported by a skilled and innovative workforce," he explained.
Commenting further on the two-day programme, he said students will have the opportunity to participate in various interactive workshops involving artificial intelligence, green technology, and robotics, as well as participate in competitions that stimulate creative thinking and teamwork.
Also present was Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development of Sarawak Datuk Francis Harden Hollis. -UKASnews
