KUCHING: The Finnish Government aims to continue strengthening cooperation in the renewable energy and digitalisation sectors, especially with the Sarawak Government, through various initiatives focused on green transition and sustainable development.
Ambassador of Finland to Malaysia, Anne Vasara expressed her excitement at being able to briefly discuss the potential for cooperation between Finland and Malaysia, especially with Sarawak, covering various strategic areas such as renewable energy, digital technology, education and green transition.
"This is because we have many opportunities and offers in Finland which can also be very good for cooperation in the field of renewable energy and digitalisation.
"This includes various aspects of the green transition and we also discussed our previous education and cooperation which also relates to the forestry sector and perhaps also on previous projects that are still ongoing on how, for example, to modernise palm oil production," she said.
She said this during a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg in conjunction with the International Energy Week (IEW) 2025 which took place at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Tuesday.
Anne added that Finland warmly welcomes more bilateral cooperation, investment and trade, especially involving Sarawak, Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region which is now increasingly important in the global landscape.
"Last May, our Minister of Trade and Development visited here and we are looking at how to further develop the cooperation and are planning further visits," she said.
During the meeting, Anne also extended an official invitation to the Sarawak Premier to visit the Vaasa Energy Week, a prestigious event held in the city of Vaasa, Finland and considered equivalent to IEW 2025 in terms of theme and industry involvement, especially in the field of green energy and clean technology. -UKASnews
