SONG: The first phase of the upgrading project for Song Open Stadium has reached 57.54 per cent completion and is progressing according to schedule, with the expected completion date set for 24 November next year.
Bukit Semuja Assemblyman, John Ilus, said the upgrading works involve major components such as replacing the grandstand roof, upgrading spectator seating, toilets, the VIP room, waiting room, staff offices, storage space, technical room, and repainting the entire stadium building.
“This stadium is an important facility for the residents of Song to carry out sports and recreational activities.
“Once fully completed, it is expected to bring significant benefits to the local community,” he said during a site visit to the project on Tuesday.
He also noted that the visit aimed to observe best practices and approaches that could serve as a guide for the future upgrade of Serian Stadium.
In addition to the building infrastructure, the first phase also includes upgrading the football field and athletics track, along with facilities for long jump, shot put, discus throw, high jump, field drainage system, and the construction of a rubber safety wall.
The project, which began on 25 November 2024, is being implemented by main contractor Fias Enterprise, with a total cost of RM4,798,041 and a completion period of 12 months.
John added that the second phase of the project will involve the installation of floodlights, the construction of perimeter fencing, and the addition of parking facilities to complete the stadium as a more comfortable and comprehensive sports venue for the local population.
