KUCHING: Sarawak will host the Borneo International Integrity Summit (BIIS) 2025, scheduled to take place from 29 to 30 July at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, said the summit, organised by the Sarawak Government through the Integrity and Ombudsman Unit in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Sarawak branch and the Konsortium Universitas Borneo (KUUB), is expected to draw over 800 participants from both within Malaysia and abroad.

“The summit aims to raise awareness on integrity and good governance, build ethical human capital in line with Sarawak’s development needs towards 2030, and foster ethical leadership among the younger generation,” he said during a press conference at Baitulmakmur II in Kuching on Friday.

The two-day event will be officially launched by Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, on 29 July 2025 at 3pm.

Carrying the theme “Driving Innovation, Transparency and Ethical Leadership for a Sustainable Future”, the summit is targeted at academics, civil servants, university students and secondary school students from Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and neighbouring countries.

“A total of 31 universities and colleges from four countries have been invited, while students from six secondary schools in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian will also be involved, as part of efforts to instil values of integrity from a young age,” he added.

Datuk Dr Juanda further explained that while Sarawak is advancing its technical and technological capabilities - such as in hydrogen and green technology - it is equally committed to developing character and ethics among the younger generation.
He said these efforts are supported by KUUB’s network of 16 universities across Brunei, Indonesia (particularly Kalimantan), Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, with UPM Sarawak serving as the consortium’s permanent secretariat.

In addition to the main conference, the summit will feature an exhibition showcasing educational institutions from the ASEAN region.

Among those participating are CENTEXS, Sarawak Skills, ICATS University College, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Samarahan, and Curtin University.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will also be signed between KUUB and the Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit to strengthen cooperation in promoting integrity across institutions of higher learning.

“This summit is not just an intellectual platform, but a collective movement towards building a more just, transparent and accountable future for Borneo.

“We are also looking into making BIIS a biennial event in Sarawak,” he said. -UKASnews
