KUCHING: Sarawak's digital payment platform, S Pay Global continues to record positive developments with the number of registered users now reaching 1,587,000 people and 94,700 merchants as of June 15, 2025.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the platform has recorded 138.16 million transactions with a total value exceeding RM5.21 billion.
"These figures show the stable growth and acceptance of digital payments in Sarawak, thus supporting the state's efforts towards a more inclusive cashless digital economy," he said.
He said this through his text of speech read by the Deputy Permanent Secretary to the Ministry for Utility and Telecommunication (MUT), Syed Mohamad Fauzi Shahab at the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Digital Technology Nexus at a leading hotel here on Tuesday.
In addition, Dato Sri Julaihi added that the Sarawak Government is also focusing on the management of Big Data to ensure that the value of data can be maximised by having a comprehensive data governance and management framework, which emphasises human, process and technology aspects.
"A phased action plan will be implemented this year which includes policy development, capacity building and operational implementation to ensure that Sarawak continues to be on a strong footing as a leader in the digital economy in the region," he explained.
Also present were UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Ahmad Hata Rasit, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Dr. Fitri Suraya Mohamad Hapni Joblie, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Ir. Dr. Siti Noor Linda Taib, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Engagement and Sustainability), Associate Professor Ts.
