KUCHING: The Sarawak Media Sports Carnival (KASUMeS) serves not only as a platform for sports and recreation but also as a crucial medium to foster camaraderie between media practitioners and government agencies in the state.
According to Director of the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, the programme not only promotes healthy living and recreation but also plays an important role in strengthening ties and fostering cooperation between the government and the media.
“In carrying out our duties as media practitioners, it is important that we also take time for recreation to maintain a healthy body, a calm mind, and stay motivated to continue our work.
“The working world is often filled with pressure and challenges. Activities like these provide a space to relieve stress, boost motivation, and enhance team spirit,” he said.
He said this during the Opening Ceremony of KASUMeS 2025 Southern Zone held at Pickleball MUSC Sarawak, here on Tuesday.
The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol.
According to Awang Putrayusrie, KASUMeS 2025 is being held in stages across three main zones, namely the Central Zone in Sibu (15 May), the Northern Zone in Miri (24 May), and the Southern Zone in Kuching (24 June).
For the Kuching edition, he said the event features three sports comprising pickleball, bowling, and badminton, with participation from media practitioners as well as government departments and agencies.
He also expressed appreciation to all parties involved in making KASUMeS 2025 a success including UKAS, TVS, Cats FM, RTM, Bernama, Borneo Post, Suara Sarawak, FINAS, United Daily News, Kupi-Kupi, Sin Chew Daily, International Times, Utusan Borneo, and the Community Communications Department (J-KOM).
Additionally, he also thanked strategic partners such as the Sarawak State Election Office, Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), Sarawak Sports Corporation, Sarawak Islamic Council, Department of Social Welfare Malaysia, Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia, Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad, and the Sarawak State Youth and Sports Department for their support and cooperation in making the programme a success. -UKASnews
