MIRI: The enthusiasm and involvement of the Miri creative community in making the WAK Miri Festival 2025 a success received praise from the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who was present to enliven the festival at the Miri Handicraft Centre on Friday night.
During the visit, Dato Sri Abdul Karim spent time reviewing the activities of the festival which is now entering its second edition and will take place from 13 to 15 June.
This festival is one of the most anticipated arts, culture and lifestyle events in the Northern Zone of Sarawak.
He also took the opportunity to greet the festival organisers and participants, in addition to expressing appreciation for the efforts of all parties involved.
“I congratulate the creative community of Miri who stood out in this edition of WAK Miri, and all art, culture and lifestyle enthusiasts are invited to come together and support the great programs brought by our local talent.
“Congratulations also to the organisers for successfully hosting another extraordinary satellite festival for the northern zone of Sarawak,” he said in a brief press conference.
WAK Miri Festival 2025 features various exciting programs such as the visual arts exhibition All About Arts: Elements of Nature, the music performance Music Portal, and the iconic Peranakan solo theatre Emily of Emerald Hill which is being staged for the first time in Miri.
Also available is the Creative Marketplace which brings together an exhibition of local handicrafts, lifestyle products and food, as well as Fringe Workshops and Activities which highlight the artistic heritage, folklore and community art movements.
WAK Miri is part of the WAK Festival (What About Kuching) movement which is now the main platform for Sarawakian arts and culture activists to express their creativity in an inclusive and open manner.
The main edition of the 7th WAK Festival will be held throughout October 2025 in Kuching and participation is still open to all local artists via the official website
