KANOWIT: The construction project of the Sedaya Ferry Terminal, which will connect the Ngemah and Machan areas, is now in the final phase before receiving full technical approval.
Machan Assemblyman, Allan Siden Gramong, hoped the project could be implemented and completed this year to provide faster and more efficient transportation facilities to local residents.
"Previously, the journey from Ngemah to Machan had to take a long route via Durin. When this ferry terminal is completed, it will save time and facilitate access to the Kanowit Market, hospitals, and important offices such as the District Office," he said when met by the media after the Ceremony of Presentation of the Certificate of Appointment of the Village Chiefs and Community Leaders (KMKK) for the Machan area, at the Kanowit District Office Hall, on Friday.
At the same time, he also informed that several new development proposals have been submitted to the Sarawak Government, including the establishment of the Kanowit Business Integrated Centre which will house various government agencies such as the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and others.
“This one-stop centre will make it easier for residents to complete tasks such as paying bills and administrative matters without having to go to the city centre. This will directly save time and provide comfort to the rural community,” he said.
He also proposed the construction of a new community hall since the existing facilities are no longer able to accommodate the needs of the growing population.
He is optimistic that this proposal will not only accelerate development in the Kanowit jetty area, but also help reduce traffic congestion in the main market area which is currently congested, especially in the morning .-UKASnews
