KUCHING: The construction of the Sejingkat Bridge is currently progressing with 52.45 per cent physical completion, slightly behind the annual target of 59.75 per cent.

Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Ir. Aidel Lariwoo said the delay of about 7.3 per cent was due to several technical issues, primarily related to temporary works involving the use of form traveller, a critical equipment used in bridge construction.

According to him, based on the revised contract, the completion date of this project was set at February 2026, but following the delays, the contractor has expressed commitment to complete it before June 2026.

“Currently, the physical progress of the project or contract has experienced a slight delay, namely the physical progress is at 52.45 per cent compared to the annual target of 59.75 per cent.

“This means that there is a delay of 7.3 per cent caused by several technical issues, especially involving temporary works using form travellers,” he said.

He spoke at a press conference in conjunction with his working visit to the construction site of the Sejingkat Bridge, here on Wednesday.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni.

Datuk Ir. Aidel added that the contractor is working to resolve the issue, including taking measures to import two sets of form travellers directly from China to speed up the construction process.

The bridge spans 1.28 kilometres in length, with a height of 26 metres from the river level and piers reaching 119 metres tall, at a cost exceeding RM360 million. -UKASnews
